Singularity definition refers to a hypothetical point in time or space where a change or transformation occurs that drastically alters the current state of technology, intelligence, or civilization. It is also known as the technological singularity, where artificial intelligence (AI) becomes superior to human intelligence and can self-improve at an exponential rate. The term was coined by mathematician and physicist Vernor Vinge in 1993 and has since gained widespread attention in the fields of science, philosophy, and technology. Some proponents of singularity predict that it could bring about unprecedented advancements in areas such as healthcare, transportation, communication, and space exploration, while others warn of potential consequences, such as job displacement, social inequality, and existential risks to humanity.
